The feminine memory is at the centre of Erietta Vordoni's Explorations. In her own mind, she discover allusions to the ancient world. Her Totems are objects which distribute themselves in space, like wandering souls, and come to life in the unnumerable images that mark them, and are indentified with the multiple episodes of personal history. They are not isolated moments, but moments of a collective history, words in an integral discourse.

Totems as landmarks, such as “Hermae”, which mark the entrance into homes and temples, as boundaries on the way towards any destination, are also symbols of the occupation of spaces which would otherwise have had no owners and therefore no one to defend them. The concept of occupation-protection, of the marking of boundaries and leaving of traces, is the very opposite of excessive consumption without transmutation of energy. In the work of Vordoni, the combination of the archetypal symbol of demarcation, with the presence of a mysterious symbolic figure, recalls the sense of the transcendental in Byzantine art, the concept of the “icon”,blended with the ancient tradition of statue-making.
